An open dialogue between Somali researchers and Hormar community on the complex reality of the diaspora.
Somali Americans are caught between two cultures that can often seem conflicting. How do we navigate these identities, particularly as young people? On November 2019, we discussed what it means to be Somali and American at an event titled What is Somalinimo. We were fortunate to be joined by academics engaged in research on Somali Studies. They provided a brief summary of their experiences and research interests. We then held round table discussions where individuals could delve deeper into specific topics. It was a very enlightening and thought-provoking event and we are very grateful for the researchers who so generously shared their expertise with us.
